こんにちは、University of Central Arkansas の、市川颯馬です。
今回のブログでは、今年あった二つの変化をテーマに書きたいと思います。
一つ目の変化は、自分の専攻を変えたことです。もともとはビジネスを専攻していたのですが、秋学期に、以前から興味のあったグラフィックデザインの学科がある、アート専攻に変更しました。変えようと思ったきっかけは、夏休みです。1人の時間が多く、自分とみっちり向き合い考えた結果、決断しました。まだビジネスは副専攻として取っているのですが、アートは真逆と言ってもい良いくらい異なる分野で、授業の形式、課題の提出方法、評価のされ方など、とても独特です。課題は基本24時間空いているキャンパス内のスタジオで取り組み、時には徹夜で作品の制作に取り組む時もあります。正直アメリカに来てから一番忙しかったです。ただ言えるのは、自分が課題に没頭する時間、考える過程がとても楽しく、変えて本当に良かったと思います。
二つ目の変化は、ポジションが変わったことです。以前まではサイドハーフ、ウイングを主にやっていたのですが、ちょうど夏のサマーリーグの時期から、サイドバックをやるようになりました。きっかけはサマーリーグのコーチの、「サイドバックやってみないか？」の一言なのですが、やってみるととても面白く、自分より足が速い、フィジカルで勝る相手に対してどう対応するか、どうやってサイドバックの位置からチームの攻撃にアクセントを加えるか、試合を重ねるごとに学ぶことが多くて、とても楽しいシーズンでした。
今年は全体を通して変化に順応する作業が多かった年でしたが、同じ状況、環境下で結果を出し続けるのも大事なことです。来年は自分の決めた道で、今年の自分を上回り、さらに成長できるようにしていきたいです。
